Alicia Silverstone updates worried fans after eating 'mildly poisonous' fruit: 'Alive and well!'

The "Clueless" star has survived her encounter with the Jerusalem cherry.

Alicia Silverstone shared an update on social media reassuring followers she was ok after posting a TikTok on Monday that caused fans some concern after she ate a 'mildly poisonous' fruit.

"Alive and well! Don't worry... I didn't swallow 😉😛," the Clueless star shared in a cheeky update.

On Monday, the star posted a video asking for help identifying a bright orange mysterious fruit she'd eaten which fans quickly identified as possibly poisonous.

"Okay, Ive discovered something that I can't figure out what it is and I need your help," she said and displayed a half-eaten, cherry tomato-sized fruit, "I just bit into this because it was on the street, and we were discussing whether it was a tomato. It's definitely not because look at these leaves."

The Baby-Sitters Club star showed the bush she plucked the berry from, which lay beyond an iron fence in the patio of a residential property. The TikTok quickly filled up with comments speculating that the it could be Solanum pseudocapsicum, which bears the poisonous fruit known as the Jerusalem cherry.

Rachel Meyer, an Associate Adjunct Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UC Santa Cruz, was able to confirm the identity of the plant to Entertainment Weekly as Solanum pseudocapsicum. She noted that the plant "is mildly poisonous but a couple of fruits won't hurt - worst is it could make you vomit."

Professor Meyer added that, "The fruits and leaves are also medicinal and pretty amazing, chemically, and even are used for gastrointestinal issues." but warned that "people should NOT eat this plant or try using it medicinally without familiarizing themselves with the literature on traditional uses and toxicity levels."

Silverstone herself seemed to sense that the bright fruit may not have been wise to sample, continuing, "So what the heck is this? Because when you open it up it looks like that, and if I bite it - I don't think you're supposed to eat this."

Rather than tasting like a cherry tomato or like a berry, Silverstone commented, "It's almost like a pepper?" She ended her short TikTok by asking once more, "Does anyone know what this is? I don't know what it is, I need someone to tell me. I'm in England. Okay thank you!"

Reps for Silverstone did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

Silverstone is best known for her roles as Cher Horowitz in 1995's Valley girl-ified Jane Austen adaptation Clueless, and as Barbara Wilson/Batgirl in 1997's Batman & Robin.

The actress has worked steadily in recent years in films like Reptile, in which she starred alongside Benicio Del Toro, the upcoming Kyle Mooney film Y2K, and horror films like Perpetrator, The Requin, and The Lodge.
