It’s official – there’s already another ‘Alien’ film in the works.
And that’s not all – thee could be another three after that.
During an interview with Fandango, Ridley Scott revealed that there’s another ‘Alien’ movie to follow the upcoming ‘Alien: Covenant’. And that’s only the beginning.
“There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] ‘Alien’,” said Scott as he explained the chronology of all the recent and upcoming ‘Alien’ movies. “It will go ‘Prometheus’, ‘Awakening’, ‘Covenant’ … fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way.”
What does this mean?
Well, while ‘Alien: Covenant’ is essentially acting as a sequel to ‘Prometheus’, it looks as though ‘Alien: Awakening’ – the until-now-unannounced ‘Alien’ movie – will slot inbetween them.
So there we have it – another new ‘Alien’ movie and we even have a title.
But that’s not all.
“If this is successful,” he added, “and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more.”
That’s right – three more ‘Alien’ movies after ‘Covenant’ and ‘Awakening’.
That’s a hell of a lot of ‘Alien’ movies coming up, and it sounds as though 20th Century Fox is keen to turn this into a continuing franchise. But how will those movies fit into the existing chronology? Will there be any overlap?
It also begs the question – will one of these end up being Neill Blomkamp’s Alien flick?
Scott himself admits that the upcoming movies will eventually ‘back into’ the back end of the ‘Alien’ trilogy… and with Blomkamp’s movie said to be taking place after ‘Aliens’, it makes you wonder whether there’s still room in the ‘Alien’ universe for his contribution.
Either way, it looks as though we have a lot more ‘Alien’ films to come.
Whether or not that’s a good thing remains to be seen.
