When you think of a farmer's market, quite often one of the first things that comes to mind is cured meats right from the farm.
D&D Meats in Alliston brings a variety of sausages and cured meats to the Alliston Rurban Farmer's Market every Saturday.
“We have our store on Victoria Street West,” said Donna MacDonald, who brings the meats to the market every week. “I'm here every Saturday, and help Tony out.”
Tony De Maria, owns the store in Alliston and has been in business locally for over 40 years.
“We have pepper sausage, garlic salami, dry salami, pepper salami, and turkey pepperettes,” Donna said of some of the items she has. “We also have some nice Mennonite summer sausage.”
While Mr. De Maria is largely retired, he still sources the meats from various places around Ontario.
“Most of our meats are made by Mennonites,” Donna said.
The Mennonite area near Kitchener is well known for hand crafted items and cured meats that are distributed across the province.
The Alliston Farmer's Market offers a variety of products every week from fresh honey to locally grown produce.
The Market also has a line-up of artisans who bring different had crafted and unique items every week.
The Farmer's Market is open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the corner of Victoria St. and Centre Street in Alliston.
