Welp, you guys, it was only a matter of time. Dolly Parton recently got her own viral internet challenge, so what was really standing in the way of Jennifer Lopez doing the same? Let’s be real: These wholesome celeb challenges give us a really nice break from the weirder and more dangerous internet challenges that circulate. I mean, have you seen the #BroomChallenge and the #SkullBreakerChallenge? Yeah, it’s time for us all to move on.

Right, so back to J.Lo. Last week, you might have noticed that women on social media, namely Instagram and Twitter, started posting pictures of themselves accompanied by the #JLoChallenge hashtag. But like...why? Allow me to explain this viral new challenge in serious detail!

So How Did The “J.Lo Challenge” Start?

On February 17, Miss Jenny From the Block posted a mirror selfie to Instagram in a white string bikini. Since J.Lo is, well...J.Lo, she basically shut down the internet and got more than 8 million Likes on the picture. Meanwhile, I struggle to get my own parents to Like my pics. 🙃

Who Created the “J.Lo Challenge” Hashtag in the First Place?

We have a mom fit-fluencer to thank for that! Maria Kang, founder of No Excuses Moms, created the hashtag after feeling inspired by J.Lo’s picture.

“Thank you @jlo for inspiring this spontaneous pic in a white bikini this morning…Not a celebrity. Not getting millions to look great in a movie (hello, Hustlers! 🙂 Or dating a hot athlete (although my hubby is kinda cute!) BUT, it doesn’t matter…Own your story,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Create your own accountability. Don’t make excuses for your inaction. If she can do it, if I can do it, if thousands of working moms who come in all sizes, shapes and ages can do it—then YOU CAN DO IT,” she continued, asking others to share their own bathroom selfies with #JLoChallenge to social media.

After Maria’s post, the hashtag soon caught fire and saw mothers celebrating their bodies and their achievements in self-love, fitness, and body positivity.

How Can I Get in on the “J.Lo Challenge”?

It’s simple! If you’re feeling inspired, post a picture of yourself to your social media platform of choice with #JLoChallenge. It was a challenge started by a mom, but I’m sure anyone can take part in the fun.
