Amanda Holden has hit back at trolls who complained about the dress she wore during Saturday's episode of Britain’s Got Talent.

The TV judge became the focus of criticism on social media at the weekend due to a low-cut dress that some viewers said was “too revealing” for a family show, with some claiming they could “see her nipples”.

Ahead of the show, Holden shared a photo of her look on Instagram, writing: “BGT tonight 8pm @itv! So excited for a show full of incredible acts + we get to see a theatre show (finally!) with a performance from the cast of Hairspray.”

The blue sequin dress, which was created by Greek fashion designer Celia Kritharioti, featured an off-shoulder neckline with a plunging bustier and thigh-high slit. The singer accessorised the gown with Prada shoes and jewellery by Stephen Webster.

A total of 277 people complained to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom over Saturday’s episode of the talent show, with 235 relating directly to Holden’s outfit.

On Twitter, some viewers deemed the dress to be “far too revealing”.

“Is Amanda Holden aware that this is a FAMILY programme? She’s OTT with that revealing dress. You can literally see her nips!!!” one person wrote.

Another added: “Is it my eyes or are Amanda Holden nipples nearly falling out of the dress?” while a third person agreed, commenting: “'Are Amanda's nipples on show?”

Meanwhile, some users jumped to the judge’s defence, with one person writing: “What’s the matter with you prudish people, Amanda Holden looked gorgeous in that dress.”

Another added: “Karen’s are saying this dress is inappropriate and you could see Amanda Holden’s nipples. NO YOU COULDNT. Those are shadows from where the dress doesn’t touch her skin. Nipples aren’t found in your cleavage.”

On Tuesday, Holden responded on Instagram to the negative comments surrounding her outfit choice.

Alongside a screenshot of a newspaper article highlighting the number of complaints her dress received, Holden wrote: “Mmmm really!? Who has nipples this close to their cleavage?

“FYI. A boned corset dented the girls all night.” She also added two fried egg emojis.

This is not the first time that Holden’s outfits have been the subject of complaints to Ofcom, with looks she wore in last year’s series of the talent show sparking similar reactions.

The star defended her clothing choices at the time, telling You magazine that she was enjoying the attention.

“I love it that people are still talking about my tired old breasts and I'm nearly 50!” she said.

“No one talks about Alesha Dixon's – she's got great boobs by the way – and she's eight years younger than me.

“Age is totally irrelevant, thanks to people like J-Lo, who is 49 and just a sexy, hot woman who dresses for how she feels.”

The latest wave of criticism comes after the ITV show was subject to more than 20,000 complaints following a performance from dance group Diversity during the first semi-final earlier this month.

Ashley Banjo, who is currently a judge on the programme, and his dance troupe Diversity performed a powerful Black Lives Matter routine on the show but the dance was accused by viewers of taking a political stance.

The show's first semi-final attracted 24,500 complaints to OfCom, who have since announced they will not investigate any further.
