Mark your calendar, because Amazon Prime Day is just around the corner.

From 13 to 14 October, there will be more than a million deals across big names to shop during the huge sale event.

While previous years saw the sale run in July, this year it was postponed until October due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As 2020 has been a hugely difficult year for small business owners, Amazon is encouraging shoppers to show support for them this Prime Day.

Prime members who spend £10 with select small businesses from 28th September to 12 October will earn £10 to spend on Prime Day.

This year’s sale also promises deals and discounts on everything from tablets to TVs. It’s the perfect opportunity to do a spot of early Christmas shopping or to bag a bargain on products you’ve had your eye on for a while.

Gaming is a popular category on Prime Day, and we’re expecting seriously slashed prices from brands including Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo.

From consoles and games to bundles and accessories, up ahead we’ve predicted what deals to look out for this year and have shared top tips on how to make the most of Amazon’s huge sale event.

Our IndyBest team hand-picks every deal we feature. We may earn some commission from the links in this article, but our selections have been made independently and without bias. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

How can I take part?

Amazon’s Prime Day sale is exclusive to customers that hold an Amazon Prime membership.

If you’re not already a member, there’s still plenty of time to sign up. A monthly membership costs £7.99 or you can pay an annual sum of £79.

You can also sign up for a 30-day trial before the sale starts, which means you can shop the Prime Day deals without forking out for a membership, as long as you remember to cancel before the trial period ends.

Subscribers are also granted access to same-day delivery slots, over 800,000 free e-books and the use of Prime Video and Amazon music services.

How can you get the best deals?

Here at IndyBest, the team will be scouring the sales to help you navigate the most worthwhile savings and discounts to enjoy, so make sure to check back here.

Another way to ensure you get the best deals is to download the Amazon app. Not only will this give you a head start, you will also be able to track Lightning Deals, which are discounts that are only available for a few hours at a time. You can set up alerts too to be notified when certain deals go live.

What were the best gaming deals last year?

Look out for bundles, which have both game consoles, controllers and accessories so in one purchase you can stock up with everything you need.

Last year, some of the best deals on Prime Day included the Sony PlayStation 4 500GB console with FIFA 19 ultimate team icons and rare player pack bundle which was reduced from £249.99 to £219.99.

This Xbox One S 1TB all digital console and extra controller and game pass ultimate (3 months) also saw a big reduction. Originally it was £287.97 and in the sale it went down to £169.99, eventually selling out.

Individual games such as Call of Duty: Black ops 4 (PS4) also saw slashed prices. During Prime Day, it was reduced from £24.99 to £11.99.

What deals can you expect this year?

Aside from Xbox and Playstation consoles, the Nintendo Switch is also hugely popular during Prime Day, but it often sells out fast, so if it’s on your wish list, keep your eyes peeled.

Last year, it was included in a bundle that came with £30 Nintendo E-shop credit, Just Dance 19 and Mario Rabbids, reduced from £330.41 to £289.99.

If you already own one, there’s likely to be plenty of individual games to shop during the sale too, including FIFA 19, Diablo Eternal Collection and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane trilogy.

Prime Day will be a good time to pick up a new controller too, such as the Beboncool wireless controller for Nintendo Switch, or this Enhanced wired controller for Xbox One or a Sony PlayStation dualshock 4 controller.
