Father of teen girl found in Toronto after reported abduction says she's gone missing before

Teen who was subject of Amber Alert 'not the victim of abduction,' police say

The father of a teen girl found in Toronto following a reported abduction said her family is "relieved" that she's been brought home safely.

He also told media on Monday that the 15-year-old has gone missing before and has been hanging out with the "wrong people."

CBC Toronto is not revealing her parents' names to protect the identity of the girl, who was the subject of an Amber Alert on Monday morning after reportedly being abducted on Sunday afternoon in Mississauga, Ont.

Peel police Const. Mark Fischer told CBC News that the girl had been found in Toronto and was then brought back to Mississauga for an interview so police could have a better idea about what happened.

He said he did not believe the girl had been injured.

'She's pretty secretive'

The girl had also gone missing for several days in December, according to police and her parents.

"She's on the internet a lot and she's just hooked up with the wrong people — older people — and a lot of them live around here, I think," the girl's father said. "She's pretty secretive… we just want to figure it out and keep her safe."

The girl was reported missing by her family on Sunday at 9:22 p.m. ET.

Her father said the family realized she was missing after her younger sister went into her room to wake her up and found a "pile of clothes" in the shape of a body in her bed.

Police still searching for 2 suspects

The Amber Alert issued on Monday morning — which has since been cancelled — also followed a witness report to police that she saw a grey or silver van come to an abrupt stop in the area of St. Barbara Boulevard and Comiskey Crescent in the north end of Mississauga at 1:25 p.m. ET Sunday.

The witness said she saw two males emerge from the van and force a female into the vehicle. The van was last seen travelling southbound on Saint Barbara Boulevard toward Derry Road West.

Peel police initially told CBC News that the two incidents seemed to be connected, but the girl's father said Monday night — after his daughter was found — that it's unclear if that's still considered the case.

Fischer said police are still investigating the girl's disappearance as a possible abduction, adding police are still looking for the two males and the silver van identified by the witness.

One of the males involved was a tall, thin South Asian, around 24, wearing a grey sweater, green shirt and orange turban. The other male also appeared to be South Asian.

Peel police Sgt. Josh Colley said an Amber Alert was not issued until Monday morning because police had to confirm information about the witness report and family's missing person report, which he described as a "long process."

The girl's family took her home Monday evening after she was questioned by police.

"I'm feeling pretty good that we got her home again, that she safe and sound and in one piece," her father said. "I just want to try to keep her that way now."
