At least 12 people were killed, and dozens more injured, in a stampede at a stadium in San Salvador, El Salvador, on May 20, local media reported.
The Cuscatlan Stadium was hosting a quarter-final soccer match between local teams Alianza and FAS, ElSalvador.com reported.
The stampede occurred when a group of fans knocked down a gate while attempting to enter the stadium, the report said.
The President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele said an investigation would take place. He tweeted: “Everyone will be investigated: teams, managers, stadium, ticket office, league, federation, etc. Whoever the culprits are, they will not go unpunished.” Credit: Andrés Benítez via Storyful
