America Ferrera Shares That Putting Up Her Christmas Tree is Equal Parts ‘Disaster and Wonderful Joy’ (Exclusive)

The actress, 39, exclusively opened up to PEOPLE at the ELLE Women in Hollywood Celebration in L.A. on Tuesday about how putting up the Christmas tree in her new N.Y.C home is both a good and a bad thing.
“Putting up my tree is equal parts like a frustrating disaster and a wonderful joy," she tells PEOPLE.
"The first year I lived in New York City, I carried my own tree home. It was a small tree,” she adds. “Clearly I'm a small person, but I felt like such an adult going down to this corner bodega, buying my Christmas tree, walking home and decorating it.”
"And now I get to do that with my kids," she says. "[But] I can't carry it because we get a bigger tree."

The Ugly Betty alum's holiday revelations come after she recently spoke about Hollywood’s view of her body throughout her career.
In an interview with ELLE for their 2023 Women in Hollywood issue last month, she said that it was “insane” that her “very average-size body” was considered “curvy,” adding that she was, “Hollywood’s version of imperfect, which seems so ridiculous.”
The actress also told the outlet that she'd never set out to be an inspiration because of her choice of career.
“I didn’t set out to be a role model, or to break barriers, or to have a career about defying the norm. I just wanted to be an actress," she said.
