American Airlines cancels Ottawa-Chicago flights

American Airlines will no longer run flights between Ottawa and Chicago as of January, the company has confirmed.

The American Eagle service has run two flights with a 50-seat Embraer E-145 jet each day between the two cities. But as of Jan. 8, 2014, those will stop.

“We continually evaluate our network to ensure we are maximizing our fleet and profitability while matching customer demand,” read a statement from Matt Miller, an American Airlines spokesman.

There won’t be any job cuts, according to Miller, who said staff to work on other flights at the Ottawa airport.

American Airlines still offers flights to Watertown, N.Y., Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo twice a day.
