American Idol is bringing back original show host Ryan Seacrest

Ryan Seacrest has confirmed he will be returning to American Idol.

The long-time host of the series, which previously moved from FOX to ABC, will take up presenting duties for the seventeenth time when a new season airs next year.

A judges shake-up will see Katy Perry return to the table, while Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan will sit beside her.

In-house mentor Bobby Bones will also be returning for the season.

"American Idol has been my home for 17 seasons and I can't wait to return to the stage," Seacrest said (via The Wrap).

"It's the greatest gift to be able to play a part in discovering new talent with a franchise that has been such a relevant part of American culture for so many years."

Karey Burke, ABC Entertainment president, added: "Ryan has been hosting Idol since the beginning, and the energy and enthusiasm he brings to the show after 17 seasons are remarkable."

American Idol returns in 2020 and airs on Fox in the US.
