'How I Met Your Father' pays tribute to Bob Saget, narrator on 'HIMYM': 'A truly legendary human'

"How I Met Your Father" paid tribute to the late Bob Saget in Hulu's inaugural episode Tuesday.

The streaming series premiered the first two episodes Tuesday, with the Saget tribute at the end of the first – a black title card stating simply, "In Loving Memory of Bob Saget."

Saget voiced the narrator, the show's future Ted Mosby, for all nine seasons of CBS's "How I Met Your Mother," which aired from 2005-14. The comedian and "Full House" star died Jan. 9 at age 65.

"How I Met Your Father" executive producers Craig Thomas, Carter Bays and Pam Fryman added to the tribute in a statement following the show's streaming release, stating, "R.I.P. to a truly legendary human."

"The wit, the wisdom, and, above all, the kindness fans heard in Bob Saget's voice (as Ted Mosby in the year 2030) was no act. It's who Bob really was. And it's how all of us in the 'How I Met Your Mother' family will always remember him," the statement read. "You'll be so missed, Bob, because you were so loved."

"America's Funniest Home Videos" also paid moving tribute to Saget, the show's beloved original host.

During Sunday’s broadcast of the long-running ABC show, current host Alfonso Ribeiro remembered Saget as a member of the show’s "family," the original "AFV" host from 1989 to 1997.

"As you’ve heard, the world lost a legend last week, and 'AFV' lost a family member," Ribeiro said in the TV tribute. “Bob Saget is synonymous with 'AFV' to this day, and this show wouldn’t have been the same without his unique sense of humor. It’s been my honor to continue carrying the torch Bob so brightly lit.”

Naturally, there was a funny video.

Ribeiro introduced a look-back montage of "Bob being Bob," featuring Saget in some of his zanier moments of physical comedy on the show. An interview section from the show's 20th-anniversary special featured Saget discussing his five voice-over personalities with then-host Tom Bergeron.

After listing four of his voice-overs, Saget remembered his fifth, "I guess it's 'Oh, I'm beautiful," Saget said in a goofy voice, causing Bergeron to crack up.

"AFV" paid further tribute to Saget when posting the video on the official YouTube channel, writing:

  • "Bob was the backbone of a TV show that has gone on to entertain not only America, but the world. Bob made us smile, he made us laugh out loud and, often times, he would make us giggle. A comedy legend. A kind soul. Our dear friend. We will miss you, Bob. ❤"

Ribeiro, 50, had previously posted his own tribute to Saget on Instagram, writing, "He was amazing. There’s no AFV without Bob. RIP Bob. We will all miss you."

Bergeron, 66, posted an Instagram tribute as well, recalling when he asked Saget to appear on his final "AFV" show.

"Without hesitation he said yes," Bergeron wrote. "I’ll always be grateful for that. And for our friendship. #RIP."

Friends and family gathered Friday for an intimate service in Los Angeles to pay their last respects in person. "Full House" stars John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweeten, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen arrived dressed in black. Dave Chappelle, Jimmy Kimmel, John Mayer and Chris Rock also attended.

Wife Kelly Rizzo posted an emotional remembrance to Saget on Saturday.

"My sweet husband," Rizzo wrote on Instagram. "After much reflection this week, I’m trying, really trying, to not think I was robbed of time. But instead to think: How lucky was I that I got to be the one to be married to THE MOST INCREDIBLE MAN ON EARTH."

On Monday, Candace Cameron Bure called the past week "one of the hardest weeks of my life" following Saget's death and Friday funeral.

"And yet, incredibly beautiful because of family and close friends," she wrote.

"Yesterday was a better day," Cameron Bure shared on Instagram, with a photo of her and Dave Coulier sharing a laugh. "We walked, we laughed, we reminisced. @dcoulier and @melissacoulier, I (love) you. I think that's all you'll hear from me again. I love you. Don't be annoyed."

The "Full House" star also shared details on the homemade sweatshirt she donned in the photo, with wording that read: "Love like Jesus, hug like Bob Saget." She tagged Saget's wife, Rizzo, and said she made sweatshirts for her and the family.

Florida's Orange County Medical Examiner's office said in a Jan. 10 statement that an autopsy had been completed on Saget, with no "evidence of drug use or foul play."

The cause and manner of death are "pending further studies and investigation, which may take up to 10-12 weeks to complete," according to the statement.
