These Among Us Nails Aren’t Sus at All

Two years after its initial release in 2018, the game Among Us has taken the world by storm, providing some necessary escapism during a global pandemic. The object of the game is to find the impostor within your spaceship "crew." You either play as a regular crewmate completing tasks or an imposter, which kills the other crew members. The game has become so popular, congress members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar played it live on Twitch with a few other streamers and YouTubers in late October 2020. The stream drew in about 439,000 viewers.

Like any cultural phenomenon, Among Us's influence has made its way to beauty, specifically nail art. Just ask artist Anna Miles who incorporated the little crewmates in a super cute manicure she shared on October 26. Each nail (minus the thumbs) features a crew member (dead or alive), and the thumbs showcase the lava pit from the game.

It took three hours to create the entire look using the Con'celect X BritneyTokyo Teeny Tiny nail brush and a few different shades of nail polish. Miles loves doing detailed work with this brush. "It has great pressure control — meaning I can create very fine outlines with a very light and swift stroke," she shares. "Or I can fill in small spaces by applying more pressure and fanning the bristles out to paint small coverage areas."

She started the manicure by creating the lava pit on each thumb. It took about five minutes to paint with the Teeny Tiny brush, and she used just as many polish shades (yellow, orange, red, lavender, and dark purple) to achieve it. Then, it was time to paint the crew members. She formed each of their bodies and jetpacks in the same shade by making a long oval shape (the body) and a much smaller oval (the jetpack) right next to it.

On top of the larger oval, she added a black oval outline to make the googles and then outlined the entire "suit" in black. After filling in the googles with white polish, she created shadows with light blue and dark grey shades.

For the dead crewmates (located on the left pinky nail and right ring finger) with a white bone protruding from the corpse, Miles created the base of the broken bodies with a bright polish shade. Then, she added the black zig-zag line and painted on the bone using a white polish. After the characters were complete, she used a black polish to outline everything again and finished those nails by painting the background with a grey shimmery polish. Then voilà — a manicure any Among Us geek would love.
