Animal Crossing autumn update gets your island ready for Halloween

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting its next free update in a week, adding Halloween and autumn-themed items.

Nintendo is giving players plenty of time to prepare for Halloween, like being able to grow pumpkins and change up your appearance to get into the... spirit of things.

There will also be new spooky items and decorations, new reactions, candy sold in the shop and much, much more.

When the update is available, you'll be able to buy candy from the Nook's Cranny store for a pittance of 120 Bells and start handing them out to your fellow islanders! The Halloween and autumn update was announced on Twitter, it will be going live on September 30.

What's new in Animal Crossing's autumn update?

This is the third major wave of free content updates for New Horizons and it will be going live on September 30.

The autumn update will add new items to the Nook's Cranny store, allow you to farm and raise pumpkins and create special Halloween-themed items and decorations.

Make sure you've got room for a pretty pumpkin patch because you're going to want to plant and water a lot of these to craft everything available.

From the video shared by Nintendo, it also looks like this update will add more of an autumnal hue to the game, as well as turning the colour of the trees.

New clothes will also be added to the Able Sister's store, like a Mage's Dress and some other hats like horns, so at least you'll be able to look the part and scare everyone.

The video also shows the ability to change your skin tone to more sickly or even green and ghost-white colours, along with changing your eyes to an evil (or kind of adorable) shade of pink.

There will also be a special event on the Halloween, October 31.

Taking place between 5pm local time until midnight, everyone on your island will be out dressed to thrill, as well as the addition of a new NPC visiting your island.

Jack, the self-proclaimed czar of Halloween, will be found in the town plaza just outside of the resident services building, so make sure you talk to him come Halloween night.

He's not quite Jack Skellington, AKA the Pumpkin King himself, but this Jack definitely looks the part.

You'll also be able to Trick or Treat with your islanders, so be sure to talk to all of them to see what they have to say.

The end of the video shared a new feature coming in October called NookLink, which seems like it is going to be an app to download on your real-life phone.

Also teased at the very end is what seems to be a hint towards a Thanks Giving-themed update and, of course, a Christmas and Winter update.
