HURON COUNTY – Up to five students could be awarded $3,000 each to start their own business this summer. Huron County is encouraging students aged 15-29 to apply.

The Ontario Government offers the Summer Program annually to encourage young people to start and run their own summer business by providing funding, advice, and services.

If accepted into the program, students receive:

- An award of up to $3,000, with the first payment of up to $1,500 for start-up costs, and the second payment of up to $1,500 once students complet the program; as well as hands-on coaching and mentoring from local business leaders.

- Students also get to keep any profits generated through the operation of your business.

“The Summer Company really changed everything, I couldn’t have done it without it,” Brody Nesbitt, owner of Brody Builds, said in a press release.

Nesbitt was a participant in the 2020 program. “They helped me overcome getting started, get the ball running and get going. The start-up costs really helped.”

Applications for the Summer Company program are open until May 23.

To apply, individuals must determine if they are eligible and submit an online application inquiry. All submitted applications will be reviewed, and applicants may be contacted for an interview before being approved for the program.
