Anti-bullying video a hit for Vancouver student

A new anti-bullying music video made by a Vancouver high school student is gaining popularity online.

Sid Bhullar, 15, wrote and produced the song called "Won't Stop," which he posted on YouTube about a month ago and it's already has nearly 65,000 views.

“I want to send a message that bullying is growing and should be stopped,” Bhullar told CBC News Friday.

“You can ask any kid these days, 99 per cent of kids have witnessed some sort of bullying, whether they've seen bullying, or been bullied, or, like, encountered bullying.”

It cost $500 to make the video, which Bhullar had earned working at his parents’ veterinary clinic.

“I had to work two months in the animal hospital and doing chores around the house. I was working day and night,” he said.

Bhullar said reaction has mostly been positive, but he has had a few negative comments online.

“Whatever you do, there's always going to be negative feedback, but you have to ignore that and stay focused on your goal.”

Officials at his school, John Oliver Secondary, say they are completely behind the young songwriter.

“Sid has just done a remarkable job and we're incredibly proud of him,” said principal Tim McGeer.

"I want to applaud him and applaud all the other students both here at John Oliver and at so many other schools who are taking a stand on bullying. We're seeing it all through our system and it's really encouraging.”

Sid can't believe the video has already had so many views, but he adds that it is just the beginning.

“A lot of kids have been playing it in the hallways and things. It's great. It feels good that I'm making a change. It may not be a big change, but at least it's starting here.”
