This is absolute boss-level shit right here. A$AP Rocky and Rihanna were spotted this weekend in Los Angeles celebrating Rocky's 34th birthday with one of the more stylish date night outfits to grace the city in recent memory. Rihanna, for her part, looks stunning in a one-shoulder, sheer black dress. But this being Esquire, the thing that really caught our eye was Rocky's look, because damn is it a good one. Not only that, despite his particular take on it coming with a relatively high difficulty level—more on that in just a moment–it's something that pretty much anyone can emulate with ease for their next big night out.

First, let's break down the outfit itself: a slim, double-breasted suit with a white shirt, black tie, black shoes, and big ol' black sunglasses. Simple enough on its surface, but it's when you get to the details that you realize why Rocky's approach comes with a necessary degree of fashion mastery. Because the suit isn't just double-breasted, it also comes with the not-so-common 2x1 button configuration, in which there are just two buttons visible on the front, only one of which is fastened (there's also, in all likelihood, an anchor button on the interior). Add to that the shadow-stripe pattern on the fabric and you've got something that could swing "Bugsy Malone" instead of "Fashion Killa" in pretty short order.

But Rocky avoids that pitfall by keeping the fit balanced between trim and boxy and letting the jacket hang open, a move that works on any type of double-breasted jacket and might upset some traditionalists but, in our humble opinion, should be employed far more often by celebrities and civilians alike. If you want to channel his vibe, though, you'd be better off opting for a more-versatile six- or four-button double-breasted jacket. J.Crew has a take on the style that leans a little more professorial but no less cool, while Mr Porter's in-house label Mr P. offers up a sleek take in black corduroy. Suitsupply, naturally, has a full suit for a relative steal. And if you really want to go for it like Rocky, there's always Celine Homme.

The tie is slimmer than standard these days, but if you've got a frame like Rocky's, it works (otherwise, go for something wider). The simple black derbies and white dress shirt are things that you should really have in your repertoire already. And whether you choose to accessorize with nighttime sunglasses and a fat joint? Well, that's entirely up to you.
