Apartment altercation, underwater snowmobile among calls in Kitimat RCMP weekly report

Every week, the Kitimat RCMP publishes a list of several of the calls they responded to that week. Here’s what happened from Feb. 4 to 11:

Apartment altercation

Kitimat RCMP received a call about a fight at an apartment building on Feb. 5, at 1:47 p.m. Members attended the scene and arrested one woman for assauting another woman. Achohol was involved, and the women knew each other. The arrested woman was released on conditions not to contact the victim, and charges are pending.

Check stop

On Feb. 8, RCMP conducted a check stop on Haisla Blvd. Members checked around 50 vehicles and administered three breathylizer tests, all of which were below the legal limit. In total, RCMP issued several verbal warning, along with two violation tickets for no driver’s license and one for driving contrary to restriction.

Landfill theft

On Feb. 8, a complaintant reported that someone broke into the Kitimat landfill and stole valued items overnight. RCMP attended the site, where a lock on a shed was cut, but there was no video footage or known witnesses. Police are conducting extra patrols in the area.

Underwater snowmobile

RCMP received a recovered vehicle complaint out of Onion Lake, 30 kilometres north of Kitimat. The complaintant told police he was using an underwater camera while ice fishing and found a snowmobile about 20 feet below the surface, but did not note the plate number or vehicle identification number. The complaintant said that there was nothing to indicate that the snowmobile had been in an accident or occupied. No missing persons have been reported in the area and an RCMP investigation is ongoing.
