Apartment fire sends 1 to hospital

A senior suffering from severe smoke inhalation was rushed to hospital following a two-alarm fire in the city's east end on Friday morning.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. on the seventh floor of an apartment building on Lumsden Avenue, near Main and Danforth, and quickly escalated to a two-alarm blaze.

Firefighters quickly got the fire under control. Smoke seeped throughout the building, but residents were told to stay in their units throughout the incident.

Paramedics transported the male victim, 70, to hospital in critical condition, where he was later upgraded to stable condition.

Another adult male resident and his two children, one of whom is an infant, were also treated for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire started in the kitchen and isn't considered suspicious, firefighters said.
