Apple's Siri refuses to answer certain questions about music unless you pay up

If you’re not an Apple Music subscriber, you may find Siri to be less than helpful when it comes to certain music-related questions.

Free trials for the service launched earlier this year are coming to an end, and that has iPhone users starting to notice some strategic sass from the phone’s trusty helper.

Last week, The Guardian reported Apple Music had garnered more than 6.5 million paying subscribers in the first three weeks since free services began expiring for its earliest adopters.

Another 8.5 million were reportedly still in the three-month trial stages.

With millions of people now facing a choice as to whether they’re willing to shell out for the service, it seems Siri is trying to give iPhone users a shove in one particular direction.

Ask Siri "who’s topping the charts in the U.S." and you will get little more than an apology and complete refusal. Why? Becasue you have not subscribed to Apple Music.

It looks like this might just be an American issue for the time being; apparently Siri will still tell you who’s topping the charts in the U.K., according to Metro.

For now, it seems, if you want to find out which artists are dominating the charts State side, you’ll have to pay for it or look it up yourself.

Meantime, with the company starting to take orders for the new Apple TV this week, you’ve got to wonder if television ratings and show times might be next on Siri's chopping block.
