Apple Watch to be sold through Best Buy in Canada on Aug. 14

The Apple Watch will become available in Canadian Best Buy stores on Aug. 14, the retailer says.

That's a week after the big American retail chain begins carrying Apple's entry into the wearable technology category.

It's the first time Apple has sold the watch outside its own retail stores and marks a new experiment in mass marketing by the tech giant.

The watch, with access to phone, email, music and information about your workout, also will be available online from Best Buy.

Apple has not released sales numbers for the Apple Watch, which it released in April, but said demand from loyal customers has been strong.

Canadian prices begin at $449 for the smaller, 38-mm model Apple Watch Sport. A standard version will be $699, and the high-end "Edition" model will be priced from $13,000.

A number of different watch bands are available for the device.

"Customers love Apple Watch, and we are thrilled to begin offering it at Best Buy … More than 50 Best Buy stores will carry Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport models in time for the holiday shopping season," Apple said in a statement.
