Area COVID-19 assessment centres prepare for winter

As it appears that COVID-19 is settling in for the winter, preparations are being made at area hospitals to ready assessment centres for the accompanying weather.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, the assessment centre at Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville moved indoors. It's now housed in a separate area near the Emergency Department at 100 Rolling Hills Drive.

Also as of Nov. 10, an online booking system has been added to the hospital website at headwatershealth.ca. People can still also pre-book an appointment by calling 1-833-442-2001.

The centre in Orangeville will operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, with a capacity of about 300 people each day. arking (at no charge) will be set aside in the Emergency Department area parking lot.

In Owen Sound, the outdoor COVID-19 assessment centre is being winterized with walkways being covered to protect patients from bad weather.

The portable facility is just outside the entrance to the Owen Sound Hospital Emergency Department and operates from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday. Appointments must be pre-booked online anytime or by phone.
