Would-be armed robber gets no cash, sought by police

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary are hoping to find a man who tried, and failed, to rob a smoke shop on Kelsey Drive in St. John's last week.

Police have released photos of the would-be armed robbery suspect, who they say walked out empty-handed from a smoke shop at Sobeys on Kelsey Drive.

According to police, the single man entered Griffins Smoke Shop at about 4:50 p.m. on March 20 and claimed to have a weapon. He demanded cash, but didn't get any.

He ran away a shortly before police arrived.

The man is described as about five-foot-six and 150 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was wearing blue jeans, a dark jacket and a black baseball hat.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
