The husband of Naomi Onotera has been arrested and charged after the remains of the 40-year-old Langley woman was found, police say.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced Saturday in a news release that charges for manslaughter and indignity to human remains are being laid against Onotera's husband, 49-year-old Obnes Regis.
Onotera was reported missing on Aug. 29, and her husband was arrested on Friday.
IHIT took charge of Onotera's case on Sept. 13, 2021, subsequently treating the disappearance as a criminal investigation.
Detectives say an extensive search was completed at Naomi Onotera's residence on Friday and evidence was recovered. They continue to search for more witnesses and evidence.
"We understand the community has been anxious for answers and this has been a difficult time for Naomi's friends, family and the community as whole," said Sergeant David Lee of IHIT.
"We hope this arrest provides some answers and assuages some fears."
