Arrest warrant issued for fraudster Michelle Gushue

Fraudster Michelle Gushue says being taken off meds 'institutional torture'

An arrest warrant has been issued for a woman who pleaded guilty to multiple fraud charges after she failed to show up for court Thursday morning.

Michelle Gushue pleaded guilty in October to multiple fraud charges, while admitting to depositing company cheques into her own account during her work as a bookkeeper for three St. John's-area companies.

Gushue, 40, failed to appear in court last week for sentencing.

Her lawyer Nick Westera told the court last week that Gushue had gone to hospital after taking too much medication.

Westera said he spoke with his client Wednesday, and had expected that she would appear in provincial court Thursday morning.

When she failed to show up, the Crown requested a warrant for her arrest.
