A Manitoba casino manager is looking for some worthy seamen to take ownership of a pirate ship that has been docked inside the building since last century.

The Club Regent Casino in Winnipeg is getting rid of the boat that has been part of their lobby decor since 1999. The venue is undergoing a makeover and will adopting a “Mayan resort” theme, the casino’s executive general manager, Rhena Bergman, told CTV News.

“It’s a little bit sentimental to say goodbye to this,” Bergmann admitted.

The vessel was listed for sale on the website Kijiji on Sept. 19 and some prospective buyers have shown interest. Winnipeg resident Ed Janczyszyn explained how he wanted to use the ship for an elaborate Halloween decoration. After considering the boat’s size (14 metres by 6 metres), he concluded that it’s simply too big for his lawn.

“It’s a great ship. I would hate for that thing to be put in the garbage,” Janczyszyn said. “Somebody with a huge yard or out in the country could put that to great use.”

The ship currently belongs to Paragon Industries, a demolition company in charge of gutting and overhauling the Club Regent. Rather than send the boat to a landfill, management decided to look for someone who would salvage it.

“We think that it could definitely find a good home and set sail somewhere else,” said Matthew Rurarz, project manager at Paragon.

If you’ve always dreamed of being master and commander of your own vessel, this might be your beacon to head to Winnipeg.
