Art deco Burton building set for new life
A bid has been lodged to bring a former Burton store in southern Scotland back to life.
The prominent art deco property in Dumfries town centre has been empty for a number of years.
It was hit by a fire in 2018 before it closed its doors for good.
Now an application has been submitted to Dumfries and Galloway Council to convert it into a bar and restaurant.
The store was one of a large number built by the company during the 1930s and sits near the town's Midsteeple.
However, it shut after owners Arcadia went into administration in 2020.
The Burton brand was later bought by Boohoo but that deal did not include the shops.
A planning application to turn the Dumfries building into a bar and restaurant has been lodged on behalf of the operators of the town's Cairndale Hotel.
It includes the potential for a two-floor restaurant, covered roof terrace and an outdoor seating area.
