Boy, 13, fighting for life after being hit by Jaguar as 15-year-old arrested

Police have arrested a teenager after a 13-year-old boy was left fighting for his life when he was hit by a Jaguar car that failed to stop.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after Tuesday afternoon's crash in Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan.

The younger boy was walking along the pavement when he was hit by the car, which then crashed into a wall, police said.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is critically ill.

The driver and passenger in the Jaguar failed to stop at the scene of the incident, which occurred in Old Road at about 4.30pm.

Sergeant Darren Hancock of GMP said: "Firstly, our thoughts are with the teen and his family as he remains in a critical condition in hospital.

"No parent should have to go through what they're going through right now and we have specialist officers supporting them through this horrendous time.”

He added: "We are very much keeping an open mind and would make a direct plea to anyone who may have been involved, or has the slightest bit of information, to do the moral thing and come forward."
