Attendee at Tuesday’s Tacoma Rainiers baseball game dies in stands

A person attending Tuesday’s Tacoma Rainiers versus Las Vegas baseball game at Cheney Stadium died in the stands after suffering a medical emergency.

Tacoma Fire Department spokesperson Joe Meinecke said emergency medical crews are stationed at the stadium for every game, and they responded immediately to the emergency, which occurred just after noon.

The person was declared dead at the scene, Meinecke said.

Tacoma Rainiers spokesperson Paul Braverman confirmed the medical emergency in an email to The News Tribune.

“Our staff was alerted to the medical emergency today, and the EMT and emergency personnel on site responded immediately and took control of the situation,” Braverman wrote. “Out of respect for the privacy of that individual, we won’t have any further comment.”

The game, according to attendees, continued during the emergency. The Rainiers are the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
