Authorities identify man killed after hours-long standoff with South Mississippi police

A 43-year-old man died Sunday after an hours-long standoff with Long Beach Police, authorities said.

Police said officers were first called at 12:31 p.m. Sunday to the 100 block of Kuyrkendall Place for a domestic disturbance call. The suspect, identified as Justin Brown of Long Beach, fired at a responding officer, police said.

The officer returned fire, and Brown retreated inside the residence, the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.

Family members inside the house safety left, police said. Long Beach officers repeatedly tried to contact Brown, then entered the house and found him dead, according to the release.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating. The agency investigates all officer-involved shootings in the state.

Multiple including the Biloxi Police Department, Gulfport Police Department and Harrison County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Long Beach Police Department Sunday afternoon.

Authorities did not release more information.
