This Awesome New Hotel Is Located in an Abandoned TWA Airport Terminal — See Inside!
This airport hotel will transport you to the past in style.
Located inside of a long-abandoned terminal at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, the TWA Hotel is a retro travel dream.
The property, which begins accepting reservations Feb. 14, boasts 512 guest rooms with views of the airport’s runways and the historic TWA flight center.

Reimagined by N.Y.C.-based design firm Stonehill Taylor, the luxe hotel pays homage to the eye-catching original structure of the building, designed by architect Eero Saarinen and opened in 1962.
It was ground breaking at the time for it’s inclusion of several features that are now airport staples, like enclosed jetways for boarding, luggage carousels, and electronic departure boards.
TWA, or Trans World Airlines, ceased operations in 2001 after longterm financial hardship, and the terminal closed in October of that year.
Guest rooms are accessible through the space-age flight tubes (featured in the movie Catch Me If You Can), while the lobby and business/events center incorporate some of the original waiting area seating.
The rooms offer views of the runway, but guests can rest assured they won’t hear so much as a rumble of plane noise.
Each of the floor-to-ceiling windows are built with Fabrica glass, and are the second thickest windows in the world after those at the U.S. Embassy in London.
The retro-styled rooms also boasts a fully-stocked wet bar with Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut Champagne, Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège Cognac and the official 007 Belvedere Martini with Belvedere Vodka.
The decor in the rooms features custom walnut, brass and glass elements alongside leather-upholstered furnishings. Each space is outfitted with a vintage rotary phone, from which guests can make unlimited free international and local calls.
In the bathrooms, guests will find a TWA toiletries kit that will also be on display in the TWA Hotel museum.
Other artifacts that will be in the museum include the vintage “jungle green” TWA uniform, worn by air hostesses from 1968 to 1971 and luggage tags from the time period.
A curated soundtrack featuring Frank Sinatra, The 5th Dimension, The Beatles, Rosemary Clooney, Dusty Springfield and Dean Martin will play throughout the hotel. Airline beverage carts stocked with soda and snacks will dot the property, while a Champagne fridge filled with Moet & Chandon, TAB and miniature booze bottles will be located in the lobby.
Guests can also enjoy additional amenities on property including a meeting and events space, a 10,000-square-foot rooftop observation deck with a pool, a fitness facility that offers yoga, spin classes, 8 bars and 6 restaurants.

The acclaimed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will have an on-site restaurant called the Paris Café, which shares a name with one of the terminal’s original eateries and will serve airport-inspired fare from various travel destinations, including pasta from Italy, barbecue chicken from the U.S.A., and French braised beef marchand de vin.
“As an avid traveler, I am very excited to be a part of recreating a culinary destination in this iconic landmark,” Vongerichten says.
Guests can also sip on Intelligentsia Coffee at their official outpost located on the property or by ordering from one of the custom mobile carts.
Reservations for the new hotel open on Feb. 14 for stays from May 15 on through the TWA Hotel website. Room rates begin at $249/night.
