Surrey anesthesiologist Dr. Olumuyiwa Bamgbade has been charged with a second count of sexual assault, according to the Delta police department.

Bamgbade was initially charged in September by Surrey RCMP following an alleged incident at his clinic in East Newton.

Delta police say they received two new complaints alleging sexual assault by Bamgbade after the announcement of the Surrey charges.

One of the reported cases occurred in 2019 at Bamgbade's former clinic in Delta and contained enough evidence to recommend charges, Delta police said in a written statement.

"On March 16th, 2023, Crown Counsel approved a single charge of sexual assault against Dr. Bamgbade," wrote Delta police, adding Bamgbade will address the new allegation in a court appearance on March 20 related to the first Surrey charge.

Delta police say they became acquainted with the doctor when they investigated a separate sexual assault allegation in August 2020.

However, Crown counsel did not approve charges in that case.

Delta police say Bamgbade's clinic, the Salem Anaesthesia Pain Clinic, was initially based in Delta but moved to Surrey after their investigation.

The B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. has not commented.

Last year, it said it was aware of the Surrey charge and was conducting its own investigation.
