Baby Albion funeral held in Free Church of Scotland

Dozens of people packed a church in Mount Albion Saturday morning to pay their respects for an abandoned newborn.

The newborn, who was named Baby Albion by RCMP, was found dead on the grounds of the Free Church of Scotland in Mount Albion on April 12.

An extensive investigation is underway, but the identity of the child is unknown. Police have withheld the gender as part of the investigation.

A local funeral home and the church planned the public service.

Rev. Peter Aiken spoke of the community's grief, and advised those who came to the service to turn to their faith and each other for support.

He spoke of the child's mother — who still hasn't been identified — saying a prayer for her as she is dealing with her own grief in secret.

Several RCMP officers attended the service, but they said the investigation was on hold for the day as it was a time to give the baby a proper funeral.

After the service, the baby was buried in a plot in the cemetery next to the church.
