  • Bachelor Nation has released new social media guidelines for fans, condemning racism, bullying, and hate across all platforms.

  • The show will delete comments that are abusive toward cast members and which are “hateful, racist, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, sexually explicit, or vulgar in nature.”

Bachelor Nation has released new social media guidelines ahead of The Bachelorette’s new season. Taking to their Bachelor Nation Instagram, the franchise informed fans that there will be a zero tolerance policy toward abusive and racist comments, and they’ll delete any comments that violate these terms.

“We encourage you to have fun and share the love in the comments of our posts and the posts of our cast members,” they wrote. “However, we condemn racism, bullying and hate in all its forms and have introduced new community guidelines for interacting on our posts. We will be deleting comments which are abusive toward our cast members, and reserve the right to block users who display this behavior.”

Bachelor Nation published a list of guidelines, saying comments will be deleted for reasons including:

  1. Obscene language

  2. Insults, threats, or harassment of other users, organizations, or cast members

  3. Comments which are hateful, racist, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, sexually explicit, or vulgar in nature

This decision comes amid increased calls for diversity and anti-racism on the show, including from the Bachelor Diversity Campaign, who—among other requests— asked production to cast BIPOC people for at least 35 percent of contestants, give equitable screen time to BIPOC contestants, and hire more BIPOC employees in production. They also requested that the show condemn racism in the fan base, so here’s to hoping ABC follows through on upholding these new guidelines.
