'Bachelorette' slammed for pressuring male contestants to strip naked: 'Incredibly inappropriate'

Tuesday’s episode of The Bachelorette landed lead Clare Crawley and the show’s producers in hot water on Twitter. Many viewers were upset when a game of “extreme” dodgeball turned into an awkward game of “strip” dodgeball.

The contestants were split into a red team and a blue, with each competing for a group date with Clare. Prior to the game starting, Clare said, “I feel like I want to up the ante here. I think we should play strip dodgeball.”

Chris Harrison acted surprised, asking, “So this tournament is over when the losing team has nothing on?” To which Clare replied, “Yeah. This is my game, these are my rules.” Several of the men were visibly uncomfortable with the request but went along with the new rule.

The blue team lost three games in a row, resulting in the removal of their shirts, then socks, then shorts. The red team won the date with Clare and all but one of the blue contestants, Brendan Morais, was left completely naked. Brendan apologized for keeping his jockstrap on, saying, “I love you, but I can’t.”

Many viewers were not happy about the game and several took to Twitter to denounce both Clare and the show’s producers.

After the losing team returned to the group in shame, at least, one of the other contestants agreed with the upset viewers. Yosef Aborady, who did not compete, called Clare out to the group. “It just seemed classless,” he said. Based on the teaser for next week’s episode, Yosef apparently confronts Clare about the game.

The Bachelorette airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
