New Brunswick weather: Bad weather, poor road conditions force some schools to close

Bad weather and poor road conditions are forcing some schools to close across the province today.

In  Anglophone East School District, all schools in Sackville, Dorchester and Port Elgin are closed today. In the Anglophone North School District, all schools are closed in Bathurst and Janeville. In the Francophone North East School District, all schools are closed in the Chaleur region and Acadian Peninsula. In the Anglophone South School District, St. Martins School is closed due to a power outage.

In the Francophone South School District, buses are not running to the villages of Sackville and Dorchester, but schools are open.

Blustery winds have also caused just over 500 power outages across the province today, dropping from more than 1,800 outages earlier this morning.

Environment Canada's website says northwesterly winds will blow across the province today, ranging from 30 to 50 km/h.

According to Brennan Allen, CBC's meteorologist, "All will clear out to sunny skies, however it will be a classic case of looks can be deceiving, with cold daytime highs in the minus single digits."

With the wind chill factor, temperatures could feel as low as –26 C in parts of the province.

But Allen said winds should die down by Thursday night and Friday is expected to be mainly sunny with clouds rolling into the western part of the province.
