Bail granted for first-degree murder suspect

The man charged with first-degree murder in a shooting last month has been released on bail.

William Green, 53, of Windsor is charged in connection with the shooting at Elsmere Avenue, located just north of Erie Street.

Green was released from custody Thursday to six sureties, who will have to pay $63,000 if he fails to meet the terms of his bail.

He must remain at his residence at 924 Elsmere, where the shooting occurred. In addition to being banned from consuming alcohol or prescription drugs, Green cannot communicate with members of the victim's family.

He is expected to appear in court again April 12.

Police were called to the Elsmere home late on the night of March 17 and found a 59-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Police seized a firearm they believe was used in the shooting, and said the victim and alleged shooter knew each other.
