Bathurst woman dies after being struck by car

A 67-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a car in Bathurst on Monday night.

Bathurst police Const. Jeff Chiasson said the woman was crossing St. Peter Avenue near Allison Crescent around 7:15 p.m. when she was struck.

Witnesses and ambulance medics performed CPR at the scene but the woman died shortly after she was hit.

Chiasson said the woman, whose name was not released, did not use a crosswalk.

"She was actually crossing just in the middle of the road, away from any intersection," he said.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was not injured.

Police are still investigating and have not decided if there will be charges, said Chiasson.

"I imagine by the end of the week, we have more information," he said.
