Battle of the Bands returns to Kingston

After rescheduling several times and reorganizing plans repeatedly, Juvenis Festival's Battle of the Bands will return in a live capacity.

Tomorrow in Confederation Park music will kick off at 2 PM, featuring eight different local music acts.

Competing this year will be Flute Gang, Futura Free, Fake Jazz Orchestra, The Backsteps, Sarah Zanibbi, Boat Soup, Claire Brackenbury and Lauren and The Dirty Blonde.

Battle of the Bands was initially set for April, but due to lockdowns and changing COVID restrictions has had to be rescheduled and re-planned several times.

The event was going to be fully virtual, but are thrilled to be able to go forward with the event in an in person capacity.

After being without it for a year, Juvenis' Co-Managing Director Maya Meyerman says organizers are thrilled to have the event back.

"Battle of the Bands is one of the staple events that we've had as part of the festival since its inception in 2016," Meyerman said.

"So it was really important for us to have it again and give the young music community an opportunity to perform."

The event will follow Ontario outdoor gathering limits of 100 people, with 70-80 tickets available to residents in five person pods at $5 each.

Each performer will have 10-15 minutes to perform, and the performances will be judged by two members of the local band Kasador.

This will be the first Battle of the Bands event since 2019, and the first in person event hosted by Juvenis Festival since March of 2020 as for two years festival events have been virtual.

Meyerman says the Juvenis team has worked hard to make it accessible in an online capacity, but they're excited to have an in person component.

"Even though we've done our best to transition everything online it's really exciting to be able to have in person music performances so soon," Meyerman said.

Tickets for tomorrow's event can be purchased at Juvenis' website, and the festival is accepting applications for 2022 project leaders until October 10.

In addition to tomorrow's show, Juvenis is also hosting the completely sold out Evil Dead musical from Sep 23-26 at the Baby Grand.
