A 19-year-old B.C. fishing guide, nicknamed “the sturgeon whisperer,” can add another impressive catch to his growing resume - a famous 600-pound sturgeon know as “Pig Nose.”

Nick McCabe was floating down the Fraser River near Lillooet, British Columbia, with a group of clients Tuesday afternoon when suddenly he landed this gigantic fish on his line.

Estimated to weigh-in at around 650 pounds, the decades-old sturgeon measured in at 10′2″ long and took two hours to successfully reel in, reports Global News.

McCabe has certainly caught his fair share of big fish in the past working as a guide for River Monster Adventures, a fishing tour company specializing in catching sturgeons.

But according McCabe’s co-worker Jeff Grimolfson, this particular catch was different from the typical massive fish they tend to reel in.

“We’re walking on clouds,” Grimolfson told Global News. “The living legend has been captured and lives on.”

That’s because Pig Nose has become a local legend in the surrounding community both for his gargantuan size and unique appearance.

“His name is Pig Nose and you can see why – he damaged his nose 40 years ago,” said Grimolfson. “So when his nose healed, it looks like a pig nose. As the legend lives on, you’d be in a sporting goods shop and you’d hear, ‘my buddy was sure he had Pig Nose on the line.’”

And the legend of Pig Nose won’t be ending anytime soon.

There are specific guidelines for angling sturgeons in British Columbia and a strict catch and release system is followed for each fish caught. After measuring the catch and taking a few photos to commemorate the occasion, Pig Nose was later safely released back into the wild to fight another day down in the depths of the Fraser River.
