Bears LB Matt Adams facing weapons charge, allegedly carried metal-piercing ammunition

Bears linebacker Matt Adams was arrested in Chicago on Thursday on a misdemeanor weapons charge.

According to Chicago police records obtained by the Chicago Tribune, Adams is charged with unlawful firearm possession and cited for possessing high-capacity magazines and metal-piercing bullets in violation of the city's municipal code.

Police say they found the magazines, ammunition and gun during a search of Adams' car prior to his arrest at 6:46 p.m. on Thursday. Per police, they initially questioned Adams after seeing him near a car that had been reported stolen. The report states that Adams told police that the car was his. Adams is not facing a car theft charge, and it's not clear what led to the report of a stolen vehicle or how it was resolved.

Per the report, Adams has a license for the gun, but it's not valid in Illinois. It's not clear what type of gun he allegedly possessed.
