Bears make QB switch: Nick Foles in game after bad Mitchell Trubisky INT

The Chicago Bears made a quarterback switch, and it resulted in another stunning comeback.

Mitchell Trubisky threw a third-quarter interception against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, and head coach Matt Nagy had seen enough.

Enter Nick Foles, the great relief pitcher for the Philadelphia Eagles whom the Bears acquired in the offseason. The shortened offseason seemed to give Trubisky the edge in winning the starting job, but after a thrilling Week 1 win and a strong first half, Trubisky struggled.

Foles came in and, despite throwing a controversial pick on his first drive, led Chicago to three touchdown drives in the final nine minutes. That gave the Bears a shocking 30-26 victory and the franchise’s first 3-0 start since 2013.

The Bears trailed 23-10 at the time of the switch. Trubisky had completed 13-of-22 passes for 128 yards with a touchdown and an interception, also scrambling for a 45-yard run.

But the third-quarter pick spurred the change, as Trubisky badly threw a pass on a mesh route against a simple zone. Despite Atlanta having a banged-up secondary, Blidi Wreh-Wilson had no trouble picking the ball. That turnover led to an Atlanta field goal.

Foles finished the game 16-of-29 passing for 188 yards, three TDs and the one pick in less than one half of football.

And now it appears as if the unbeaten Bears will be sticking with Foles going forward.

Nick Foles throws controversial INT after TD call

Foles immediately spurred the Bears. He connected on passes of 11 and 20 yards and drove Chicago to just outside the Atlanta red zone.

But Foles was picked when what appeared to be a touchdown was ruled an interception after replay. Allen Robinson was granted a TD, even though he and Falcons corner Darqueze Dennard came down with the ball simultaneously in the end zone.

Replay granted the pick to Dennard on what will be a hotly debated call.
