Becel Ride for Heart shuts down Gardiner, DVP on Sunday

Getting around the city this weekend was a bit of a challenge for subway riders and drivers.

DVP

The annual Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart charity event forced some road closures around the city on Sunday.

The Gardiner Expressway was closed from Carlaw Avenue to the Humber Bridge. And the DVP was closed from Highway 401 all the way south to the Gardiner.

The closures extended from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m ET.

About 14,000 cyclists were expected to participate in the ride, which started and finished at Exhibition Place.

Last year's event raised nearly $6 million for heart and stroke research.

Subway

There is no subway service between St. Clair West and Downsview stations this weekend while the TTC conducts rail and signal work.

Waterfront

There was also congestion around the waterfront when the Pan Am flame arrived at Harbourfront Centre Saturday.
