Bed Bath & Beyond is closing more stores. One is in the Boise area. Full closure list

Bed Bath & Beyond, the struggling retailer, is closing a bunch of stores as it runs low on money, including one in Boise.

The chain, which sells home, baby, beauty and wellness goods, said in a closure list dated Monday that it will close the store at 3615 S. Federal Way, along with 86 other stores nationwide.

Another Treasure Valley store, at 1350 N. Eagle Road in Meridian, is not on the closure list. Nor are Idaho stores in Idaho Falls, Moscow or Coeur d’Alene.

But the company previously announced that its Twin Falls store would close. That store is still listed on the chain’s store locator page, but a call to its phone number elicits only a recorded message: “The store you are currently calling will be closing for business. Please visit us in store to save. New discounts will be taken weekly.”

A manager at the Federal Way store, who asked not to be identified, told the Idaho Statesman that he could not disclose how many employees would be affected and did not know the closing day.

“I don’t have a lot of details,” the manager said Tuesday by phone. “It came all of a sudden. It’s fresh and raw.”

Everything in the store is being sold at 20% off in a sale that started Saturday, the manager said.

Besides the 87 Bed Bath & Beyond stores, the company is closing 48 Harmon health and beauty stores, leaving none. None of those are in the Boise area. The closures also include five Buy Buy Baby stores the company owns, none of which are in Idaho.

Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. has been preparing for a possible bankruptcy filing. The company said it doesn’t have the funds to repay its banks after they determined the retailer has defaulted on its credit lines, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The banks are calling for an immediate repayment of all outstanding loans under the credit agreement, according to the Journal.
