Go Behind-the-Scenes with Old Dominion as They Record New Love Song 'One Man Band'

Old Dominion is turning up the romance in their brand new track, “One Man Band.”

In a behind-the-scenes clip shared exclusively with PEOPLE, band members Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung and Brad Tursi bring fans along for the ride as they take the song — which they debuted on their YouTube livestream on Tuesday — from the studio to the stage.

“The new music we are making is some of the most honest we’ve ever written,” lead singer Ramsey, 41, tells PEOPLE of working on the band’s forthcoming third studio album. “I can’t wait to hear what people think about this side of us. I don’t think our fans have heard us show the type of emotion that they will hear in ‘One Man Band.’ It’s a straight up love song with a certain desperation to it that seems to show up in quite a few of the other new songs we have yet to release. It’s going to be a great year!”

The chorus, in which Ramsey sings the lyrics “I don’t want to be a one band / I don’t want to be a rolling stone alone / Putting miles on a run down van / Baby we could take our own show on the road,” perfectly reflects the romantic feel of the tune, but guitarist Rosen says that wasn’t exactly planned.

“We never set out with any specific plan in mind when we write songs,” Rosen, 43, explains. “We just try to write songs that we love, that move us.”

“I am very excited about all of the new music, but one of the songs that jumped out to me right away was ‘One Man Band,'” he continues. “I found myself just wanting to keep playing it over and over. We have always operated under the philosophy that if we love a song, the fans will love it too. So far that philosophy has not steered us wrong, so I cannot wait to share ‘One Man Band’ with our fans!”

Old Dominion is currently on their Make It Sweet tour through September, with dates across the U.S. and Canada. In October, the band released the music video for their single “Make It Sweet.”

“We try to really pay attention to our lives, and the great thing is we write really well together and spend so much time together,” Ramsey previously told PEOPLE. “I can write about their lives and they can write about my life. We can put it all into one song and make one story.”
