Bella Hadid has called out a group of New York City Police Department officers for being out in public without wearing face masks.

On Wednesday evening, the 23-year-old model shared two photos of herself on her Instagram story in which she was pictured standing in front of a group of officers.

The police officers were chatting to one another without wearing face coverings.

Hadid stood in front of them in her face mask and held her middle finger up to the camera.

“Hi @nypd masks are for all our safety, not just urs [sic],” she wrote in the caption.

In another photo, Hadid was photographed standing in front of three officers.

“Wear a mask, you guys look goofy,” she wrote.

It is not compulsory to wear face coverings outdoors in New York, so long as you are standing at least six feet away from another person.

The state guidance reads that New York residents “must wear a face covering at all times when riding public transportation, such as the subway, ferry, bus, taxis, and car services”.

Additionally, it is strongly recommended that people wear a face covering as much as possible when in a shared indoor space.

Hadid’s post comes after New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, said not wearing a mask is “disrespectful” to frontline workers.

Hadid spent much of lockdown isolating at her mother’s farm in Pennsylvania.

Speaking to Elle, the model said she had ”a lot of time to reflect during my quarantine”.

“I’m really eager to get back to work and make art again,” she said.

“Moving into the next season, I hope we can find a proactive way to move forward in a safe, healthy way.”
