Bellingham man dies in Island County crash likely caused by excessive speed, WSP reports
A Bellingham man died in a single-vehicle crash the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 26, in Island County.
The driver, Shawn A. Poolman, 40, was reported deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to a news release from Washington State Patrol.
A 40-year-old woman from Clinton, Wash., was a passenger in the car. She was uninjured and authorities reported she was wearing a seat belt.
According to WSP, the vehicle was southbound at a high speed on state route 525 near milepost 9 when it left the road and struck a fence about 30 feet off the northbound shoulder. The cause of the crash has been determined to be high speed, according to the investigation, which is being led by the Island County Sheriff’s Office and the Langley Police Department.
