'Best bridesmaid ever' celebrates friend's anniversary with photoshoot in 1995 dress

Ron and Tammi Sauer, both 44, celebrated 22 years of marriage together on June 17, a major feat considering the two went to prom together back in high school.

Tammi naturally marked the occasion by posting throwback pics of their 1995 wedding and bridal party to Facebook.

“These two 22-year-olds are celebrating 22 years of marriage! Hubba-hubba,” she wrote in a recent post. “My apologies for those dresses, ladies.”

“Happy anniversary!! Those dresses are… unique,” one friend commented on the post. “I hope they still have them. I offered the dress my sister had me wear as her maid of honor to my niece, but oddly she didn’t want to wear it to the prom.”

Those “unique” bridesmaids dresses were created using vintage Simplicity Jessica McClintock sewing patterns, and were very representative of the ’90s — off-the-shoulder burgundy sheath gowns with fishtail backs created out of brocade fabric.

“Apparently, not everyone in 1995 wanted a (dress) that looked like a Thanksgiving tablecloth,” Sauer said. “Those dresses were handmade by moms, grandmas, and random seamstresses.”

But bridesmaid Heidi Bruce Mann was adamant that she still makes good use of her bridesmaid gown:

“What do you mean sorry about the dresses? I wear mine all the time,” Mann said, and sent Sauer a series of hilariously staged photos of her performing everyday activities in the gown, such as watering the lawn, reading a book, carrying groceries and doing laundry.

Mann told BuzzFeed News: “The way Tammi was so apologetic made me think about how almost every person whose wedding I’d been in hoped I’d be able to wear their dress again. I don’t blame them…I did the same thing to my bridesmaids. I was certain I was getting them dresses that they would be able to wear again. I wasn’t.”

Sauer shared her friend’s photos to Facebook and Twitter, and the response has been overwhelmingly supportive — with people calling Mann everything from “the best bridesmaid ever” to “winning the bridesmaid game!”
