I've played almost every Star Ocean title before this one, and let me tell you: The Divine Force is one of my favorites. Between the bombastic story and lovable characters, the game will suck you in. The new ability top fly around the map makes exploration more fun than ever before, and of course, there are tons of side quests and extra content to explore once you finish the main story.

Fans have said this was a great comeback for the series. "Great game plot, game play and story. It’s reminiscent of the best SO games in the series."

NBA 2K23 packs everything basketball fans know and expect into one tight, streamlined experience. You'll feel the rush of sinking three-pointers in the role of your favorite ballers. This gift giver may have actually gotten more than she bargained for: "I was finally able to get my husband the PS5, so this game was amongst the five games that I bought him...and I haven’t seen him since Christmas because he has hidden away with this game, LOL, but he is happy."

'No Man's Sky' for Nintendo Switch

It's basically Minecraft in space, but cooler. What more could you ask for?
$30 at Amazon

No Man's Sky is a procedurally generated, endless universe for players to explore. You can take on space pirates, become a trading merchant, or just spend your days exploring the far-flung reaches of the galaxy. Not only is the game gorgeous, but there are near-seamless transitions between planetary surfaces and the inky blackness of space. As a player, you're dropped into a sandbox just waiting to be explored.

One player said they would never get bored. "I've put a lot of hours in and keep finding new stuff I have never seen before. It can be overwhelming at first, but it's easy once you get the hang of everything. I love how you can make custom game settings too!"

'Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy' for PlayStation 5

Though they aren't the same voice actors as the MCU, this version of the Guardians is well-acted and fun. You'll have a blast fighting your way through hordes of enemies and stepping into Star Lord's jet boots. Right now, it's on sale for just $20 — an absolute steal (it's almost 70% off!).

"Definitely recommend getting this game. I'm still playing it and having a blast! A whole lot better than Square Enix's last marvel game Marvel's Avengers. But it is really fun and if you like Guardians of the Galaxy or just never cared for them this game will make you love them even more!" said one happy gamer.

If you've been bingeing The Last of Us (and who hasn't?), you might feel the itch to play the game for yourself. Well, now is a great time to jump onboard — you can snag the sequel for just $25 at Walmart. And if you're a mega fan, the original TLOU just rereleased on PlayStation 5 with updated graphics.

"Absolutely love this game. I beat it in less than one week. Great gameplay, the graphics are amazing. Although the way it ended shocked me a little, it makes me think there will be a Part III. That makes me happy," said one gamer.

'Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales' for PlayStation 5

$29$35Save $6
Goodbye, Peter Parker; hello, Miles! Step into the shoes of a new hero as you once more save New York City from catastrophe.
$29 at Walmart

Marvel's Spider-Man was one of the best games of the year when it released, so this "sequel" (we say in quotes, since it's kind of a spinoff) was much anticipated — and it doesn't disappoint! Swing your way through New York City and save it from a new and dangerous threat. This entry is a bit shorter than the original, but has all of the action-packed fun fans could ask for.

"This is the best game I have ever played in my life," said one very impressed fan. "Marvel's Spiderman: Miles Morales has great graphics and an awesome storyline. The game really gives you a blast and I 100% recommend it."

'Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope' for Nintendo Switch

$30$60Save $30
Any fans of strategy games should give this one a shot. Join Mario and friends as they dive into a riotous tactical adventure.
$30 at Amazon

With nine characters to choose from, you can build a team of three to help you fight the forces of evil and save the galaxy by rescuing the scattered Sparks. Utilize cover, employ unique abilities and think through every move — you can be sure your enemies will, too!

It's even impressive to people who aren't fans of strategy games. "This game was loads of fun. I never played the first one and thought that I'd be lost and clueless on certain aspects of the game, but it's its own standalone story. Each of the characters and star Sparks have unique abilities, so playing is a breeze. Turn-based strategy usually bores me and feels like a drag, but this game was fun and accessible."

'Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes' for Nintendo Switch

$37$60Save $23

$37 at Amazon

Anyone who's a fan of Fire Emblem: Three Houses can get more of the universe they love in this musou-style interpretation. Fight your way across massive battlefields with action-adventure gameplay. Don't worry, though; it doesn't do away completely with that classic Fire Emblem strategy — employing unique twists on gameplay to keep you on your toes.

One player said, "This game is a fantastic addition to Fire Emblem: Three Houses lore. If you enjoyed Three Houses and don't mind a small mixture of warriors gameplay, this is a must-play. This game also would have been welcome as a mainstream Fire Emblem title."

Amazon

'Sonic Frontiers' for Nintendo Switch

$38$60Save $22
'Sonic Frontiers' takes players on an adventure across five different islands, each with their own secrets to discover and puzzles to solve.
$38 at Amazon

This is a brand-new interpretation of Sonic the Hedgehog in an open-world setting. So if you're a fan of Sonic-style 3D platforming, this is the game for you. If you're a fan of Sonic-style 2D platforming, this is also the game for you. It's got a bit of something for everyone.

One fan called this a new era of Sonic. "I'm still in the middle of playing this game, but the level design is mostly well-thought-out and the character interactions are so much better now than in years past. There are true connections from Sonic to each one of the characters, and the boss fights are an interesting, outlandish take. However, it works well with what this story conveys. Highly recommend!"

'Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach' for PlayStation 4

$32$40Save $8
This game is every night watchman's worst fear realized: haunted animatronics.
$32 at Amazon

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be stuck inside a haunted Chuck E Cheese's, where all of the characters are trying to murder you in the most brutal ways possible? That's the entire premise of Five Nights at Freddy's, but the exception is that you can only blockade them by controlling doors and using the cameras to plan your route to safety. Distract and flee; you can't fight back.

"I do a lot of research when I buy games for my son. And he loves to be on the edge of his seat a lot and the anticipation and to be scared. He asked for this for his birthday and i watch him play and it's a ton of fun for him. It's a boy thing and I think it's a great game if you know your kiddo can handle it," said one parent.

'Pokemon Violet' for Nintendo Switch

$44$49Save $5
One of the most popular games of the year, 'Pokémon Violet' is a romp across the region of Paldea. With brand-new Pokémon to discover and rivals to battle, this baby will keep you entertained for hours.

Whichever you pick, you'll get a similar experience with both Pokémon Violet and Pokémon Scarlet. There are a few differences between the two, but that's part of the fun!

"This new open-world Pokemon game is awesome! I’ve been so busy exploring that by the time I hit my second badge my team was already in the level 60s 🤣. There are three storylines.... Highly recommend this new gen," said one gamer.
