Bethel School District teacher arrested on suspicion of voyeurism and child pornography
A 48-year-old teacher was arrested today at Spanaway Lake High School on suspicion of voyeurism and possession of child pornography.
No one was hurt in the arrest, according to Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Darren Moss.
Deputies and detectives went to the school and arrested him when he was in a planning period and there weren’t any students in his class. They arrested him and served a search warrant at his home at the same time, Moss said.
Deputies received a report of a voyeurism incident in the Bonney Lake area Aug. 28, according to a Pierce County Sheriff’s Department press release. They learned that a 14-year-old girl found a USB plug in a charger with a small camera in it in the bathroom she shares with her 11-year-old sister.
Detectives found several photos and videos on the device which included footage of the 14-year-old girl, as well as another friend who was also 14 years old. They developed probable cause to arrest the girls’ stepfather, who lived in the home and was also employed at Spanaway Lake High School, according to the press release.
The sheriff’s department doesn’t have information at this time that anyone at the school was a victim of the man’s alleged crimes, the press release said.
The man was booked into the Pierce County Jail and the case is under investigation.
